1776 - The Last Shadow of Liberty
Jimmy "Salty" Cutter
Street urchin gang leader
Jimmy grew up never knowing his mother. His father was a fisherman at the docks in the city and took Jimmy out to help on the boat since he was old enough to tie a knot.
Jimmy hated fishing, finding it boring and hating the way the fish made him smell after cleaning them all afternoon.
When Jimmy was 8 he ate some raw fish to make himself sick so he could stay on land when his father went out to make that day’s catch. Jimmy packed a bag with some food and his fillet knife and ran away to live in the abandoned parts of the city.
On the streets he learned the hard way how to avoid the law keepers when he would try to filch his meals from the shops and markets.
One autumn day he saw a girl his age trying to sneak some potatoes from a cart but the cart driver saw her and had gotten ahold of her. Jimmy ran in and disconnected the horse pulling the cart and gave it a slap, sending it running off. The man had to go after the horse leaving Jimmy to escort the girl away.
The girl told him her name was Emma and they started working together for their meals and would take other young children in under their wing.
Eventually their ragged band grew to 15 members ranging from age 5 to 16 and Jimmy and Emma were the leaders.
